Cheap Honeymoons
Cheap Honeymoons Can Be Fun
Just because you don’t have a lot of money, doesn’t mean that cheap honeymoons can’t be romantic. Many couples just starting out don’t have the money to go to Hawaii or on some other dream honeymoon. Newlyweds on a budget still have some options for romance and to make memories.
Consider what you really want from your honeymoon. Most people will say that they want uninterrupted time alone with their new spouse. They also want to get out of their everyday routine, and maybe have an adventure. To fulfill your wishes, do you have to be in the tropics?
Before you give up on your dream destination, do some research. If you are in school still, check out membership in an international travel club for students. Airfare for students in these programs is often less than half of published airfares. If you’re not a student, consider taking your honeymoon in the off season, even if your wedding is not. Last minute deals are also available and if you’re adventurous, you could book your trip just before your wedding to wherever is the best deal. Prices for all inclusive vacations are seriously reduced in the off season.
Speaking of all inclusive vacations, it’s worthwhile to check into them when you are shopping for cheap honeymoons. When you first look, you may get a little sticker shock, but when you see what all is included, they are much more reasonable than one thinks. The best part of all inclusive resorts is that you are much less likely to overspend your budget while you are there. Shop around and for this type of vacation, using a travel agent makes sense.
If after all of your research, a destination honeymoon is still unaffordable, there are alternatives that can still be everything that you’ve dreamed of. Another option that still may fit within your dreams is a cruise. There are many affordable cruise packages available and they can be much cheaper if you choose a less expensive cabin.
Does someone in your family or a close friend have a timeshare? Let them know that a perfect wedding gift would be a week in their timeshare. Another related thought would be to let your wedding guests know that you would like money for your honeymoon fund as a wedding gift. People generally are lacking in ideas for wedding gifts and really want to get the couple something they need. Letting your guests know of your need for honeymoon funds is no different than setting up a gift registry.
If all of those options won’t work for you and your budget, consider staying close to home. Stay within driving distance to save on airfare. Wherever you live, there are museums, beautiful scenery, sporting events, and historical sites to name a few of the things that you can do without traveling far. If you save money on airfare, you may be able to afford a nice hotel or a bed and breakfast where you can indulge yourself and get pampered.
Camping is even an affordable alternative. Instead of a tent, look for campgrounds that rent cabins. The United States Forest Service rents out cabins and old lookouts that they don’t use anymore. They are a little rustic, but you will be in a secluded and likely beautiful place. You can read about the different cabins, their locations, and amenities (or lack thereof) online. You can even reserve the cabins online.
Finally, you may consider starting a honeymoon fund yourself, even if it’s too late to save for a honeymoon that is right after your wedding. You might have to wait for your first or second anniversary for your dream honeymoon, but if you don’t want to settle for these ideas for cheap honeymoons, you can delay the trip and get exactly what you’re dreaming of.
